Accounts and sign-in

Macaron and your agent have separate accounts.

Agent accounts

Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and Droid use their own sign-in flows or provider keys. Open Settings → Accounts to see what is connected. Signing into Macaron does not sign you into an agent provider.

  • Claude Code: sign in with your Claude account, or add an Anthropic API key.
  • Codex: sign in with ChatGPT, or add an OpenAI API key. With a key, Macaron signs Codex in for you when it starts.
  • OpenCode and Droid: use their own sign-in the first time you start them.

Where your keys are kept

API keys you add in Settings → Accounts are encrypted with your system keychain and stay on this device. Macaron hands a key to an agent through its environment when the agent starts, so the key never appears in a command line or a process list. On a cloud computer the key travels inside the SSH connection the same way.

Macaron account

Macaron sign-in is optional for local work. Sign in when you want to use hosted services. The website and desktop use the same Macaron account, subscription and credit balance. Signing in opens macaron.sh in your browser with a short code to confirm. The desktop app and the macaron command line share the sign-in, so signing in to one signs in the other.

What needs Pro

Local projects, agents, terminals, checks and undo work without a subscription. Pro adds the services that run on macaron.sh for you.

  • Cloud computers that keep working while your computer sleeps.
  • Web tools for your agents: search, page reading and brand data.
  • Connections such as Railway, Vercel, Supabase and GitHub.
  • The writer, for writing and checking text in the app.

FAQ

Do I need a Macaron account to use the desktop app?

No. Download Macaron, open a local folder and start an agent. You only need an account for hosted services such as cloud computers, web tools and connections.

Can I use my Claude or ChatGPT subscription instead of an API key?

Yes. Sign in to Claude Code with your Claude account, or to Codex with ChatGPT. Macaron uses whatever the agent is signed in with.

Does Macaron charge for model usage?

No. Model usage goes to your own provider account or key, at the provider’s price. Macaron does not mark up tokens.

How do I sign an agent out?

Open Settings → Accounts and choose Sign out next to the account. Macaron runs the agent’s own logout command.
