Projects and worktrees
Keep each project’s threads and files together.
Projects
Add a local folder or clone a repository into your computer. Pick a project in the sidebar to return to its threads. Chats stay attached to their project and can be reopened with their transcript.
Ways to add a project
Choose the one that matches where the code should live.
- Open a local folder: agents work on the files in that folder, on this computer.
- Clone a repository: paste a Git URL and Macaron clones it into the selected computer.
- New project: an empty Git repository in the computer, for starting from nothing.
- Copy a folder into a computer: the files go to an isolated computer as a sandbox copy, and your folder stays as it was.
Sandbox copies and Apply to Mac
A sandbox copy lets an agent work on a project without touching the original folder. When you like the result, Apply to Mac writes the changes back to your folder, but only if they apply cleanly. If your folder changed in the meantime and the changes conflict, Macaron stops and tells you instead of overwriting anything.
Worktrees
A Git worktree gives a task a separate checkout. Select its branch when starting an agent. Before applying or exporting changes, inspect the diff and run the checks for that checkout. Name a worktree with letters, numbers, dots, dashes or underscores; Macaron makes a branch with the same name.
Commit, push and pull requests
Review shows what changed in the selected checkout. Commit from the app once your Git name and email are set, push the branch, and open a pull request through the GitHub CLI when it is installed and signed in.
FAQ
Where does Macaron keep worktrees for a local folder?
In Macaron’s own app data folder, one folder per project, so they never clutter your repository.
Can I get the files out of a computer?
Yes. Export files saves every repository in a computer as a .tar.gz on this device.
Does a sandbox copy include node_modules?
Copies leave out build output and installed packages such as node_modules, .next, dist and build. Install dependencies again in the computer.
